About

Company

Monocle Education is a research driven education company specialising in social-emotional learning. Our mission is to help schools understand the social-emotional and psychological aspects of the ‘whole child’ and to develop, integrate and embed learning-related behaviours and skills into the classroom to enable learners to reach their full potential.

Founders

Dr Heidi Leeson

Dr Leeson is co-founder and Research Director at Monocle Education. She is an experienced social-emotional learning (SEL) specialist, educational psychologist, psychometrician and evaluator who has spent her career researching the learning-related behaviours that support and enhance learners' academic performance and overall success at school.

Over the past two decades, she has worked with schools, districts and government in Aotearoa and internationally, establishing valid and reliable approaches to measuring the 'whole learner', and evaluating the impact of classroom practices, school initiatives and state/national policies over the short and longer term.

Dr Leeson is an active researcher and reviewer for numerous international journals and was an invited author (with Professor John Hattie) for the American Psychological Association (APA) Handbook of Testing and Assessment in Psychology.

Andrew Malcouronne

Andrew is Managing Director and co-founder of Monocle Education. Andrew has had significant experience as a software architect which has seen him developing solutions for commercial organisations and government agencies in Aotearoa and internationally.

He is passionate about educational technology and how it can be used as a tool to assist educators to facilitate learning and pedagogy. He has a keen interest in creating effective ways of visualising - curriculum and behavioural - data to build richer and more comprehensive learner stories.

In his spare time, he works on his ambition to maybe become a half reasonable chess player.
